ARMADILLOS
Identification
- Have huge front claws used for digging
- Get their name from their armor-like shell
Environment
- Usually nocturnal and tend to be inactive during the daylight hours
- In the winter, tend to forge for food during the warm daylight hours and return to its burrow in the evening
Threats
- Dig their burrows about 2 to 3 feet below the surface
- May have several tunnels which can be 20 feet in length with several entrances that connect to the nesting area
Treatment
- Live cages
- Have minimal trees and bushes outside of your facility
- Avoid using large rocks as they can provide shelter and even encourage burrowing
